MPJ Recruitment are working with a well-established law firm looking to appoint an experienced Legal Aid Billing & Compliance Manager to take ownership of legal aid billing, compliance and cash collection activities across the business.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong background in legal aid costs, billing and compliance to join a growing firm in a position where they can genuinely influence processes, improve billing performance and support fee earners across multiple departments.

The Role

Reporting into senior leadership, you will be responsible for overseeing the legal aid billing function, ensuring claims are submitted accurately and efficiently, maintaining compliance with Legal Aid Agency requirements and driving improvements in cash collection.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing the end-to-end legal aid billing process
  • Overseeing Payments on Account, final bills and appeals
  • Monitoring work in progress and maximising fee recovery
  • Supporting Legal Aid Agency audits and compliance requirements
  • Managing disbursement recovery and statutory charge matters
  • Producing billing, WIP and cash collection reports
  • Working closely with fee earners to ensure matters are billed promptly and accurately
  • Developing and improving billing processes and procedures
  • Providing guidance and support on legal aid billing and compliance matters
  • Liaising with costs teams and external providers where required

About You

We’re keen to speak with candidates who have:

  • Extensive experience within legal aid billing, legal aid costs or legal aid compliance
  • Strong knowledge of CCMS, CWA and legal aid billing procedures
  • Experience dealing with Payments on Account, final bills and assessments
  • Good understanding of Legal Aid Agency regulations and requirements
  • Strong reporting and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities
  • A proactive approach to problem solving and process improvement
