We’re currently working with an established and growing insurance business that is looking to add a knowledgeable and customer-focused Property Claims Adjuster to its Nottingham team.
This role would suit someone with experience handling domestic and/or commercial property claims who enjoys investigating losses, reviewing technical information and making informed decisions throughout the claims process.
The Role
As a Property Claims Adjuster, you’ll be responsible for managing a varied portfolio of property claims from initial notification through to final settlement.
You’ll investigate the circumstances surrounding each loss, review the available evidence, determine policy coverage and assess the overall value of the claim, ensuring each case is handled accurately, fairly and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of domestic and/or commercial property claims through to resolution and settlement.
- Investigate claims to establish coverage, causation, liability and quantum.
- Assess claims involving buildings, contents, alternative accommodation, mitigation, restoration, trace and access and associated professional fees.
- Review surveyor reports, contractor estimates, photographs, schedules of work and other supporting documentation.
- Interpret policy wordings, endorsements and exclusions when making claim decisions.
- Liaise with policyholders, insurers, brokers, surveyors, contractors and restoration companies throughout the claims process.
- Keep customers regularly updated and provide clear explanations regarding claim decisions and next steps.
- Negotiate appropriate settlements within delegated authority and client requirements.
- Identify complex, high-value or potentially fraudulent claims and escalate where further investigation is required.
- Maintain comprehensive and accurate claims records throughout the lifecycle of each case.
- Ensure all claims activity is carried out in line with FCA regulations, Consumer Duty and internal procedures.
- Contribute to the wider team by sharing knowledge, supporting colleagues and identifying opportunities to improve processes.
About You
We’re looking for an experienced insurance professional who can demonstrate:
- Previous experience handling domestic and/or commercial property claims.
- Good knowledge of the property claims lifecycle from notification through to settlement.
- Experience assessing policy coverage, causation, liability, scope of damage and claim value.
- Understanding of buildings, contents, alternative accommodation and associated property claim costs.
- Confidence reviewing technical reports, estimates, photographs and schedules of work.
- Experience making claim decisions within delegated authority.
- Previous experience working within an FCA-regulated insurance environment.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills.
- The ability to manage a varied caseload while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
- A professional and customer-focused approach to claims handling.
Desirable Experience
The following would be advantageous:
- Experience handling complex, high-value or major loss property claims.
- Experience working across multiple insurer clients.
- Previous experience providing technical guidance or mentoring to colleagues.
- Cert CII, Cert CILA or another recognised insurance qualification, or currently working towards one.
