Major & Complex Loss Adjuster

Salary: £70,000 – £95,000 (DOE) + Bonus + Vehicle Allowance (£7,500)

Location: National Coverage

Working Hours: 9am to 5pm, Mon-Fri

A long‑established UK loss adjusting operation providing specialist claims solutions across commercial, domestic, marine, and motor sectors. The business handles a wide range of standard and non‑standard claims and employs a nationwide team of around 400 professionals. It also operates within a wider international group delivering claims management services across more than 30 territories.

The organisation is supported by an in‑house building repair network and provides specialist adjusting services in entertainment, events, and advertising.

The Person

  • Ability to work on own initiative

  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to analyse and resolve complex issues

  • Excellent customer service and communication skills with a positive attitude

  • Able to co‑ordinate multiple actions concurrently

  • Able to work to set targets

  • Flexible approach with willingness to travel throughout the UK as required

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the role include (but are not limited to):

  • Investigate and manage commercial major and complex loss claims, including site visits

  • Build rapport and develop a detailed understanding of the operations impacting each claim

  • Ensure clear understanding of policy cover with the insured, broker, and insurer

  • Identify and verify information to set accurate reserves and justify them to insurers

  • Negotiate appropriate claim outcomes within policy terms

  • Assess issues and provide pragmatic solutions to complex claims

  • Prepare detailed reports covering policy analysis, quantum (including business interruption), recovery, and recommended actions

  • Instruct, monitor, and manage claim‑related experts such as lawyers, forensic specialists, surveyors, and mitigation teams

  • Establish and maintain communication plans with all stakeholders

  • Calculate and approve interim payments where appropriate and prepare interim reports

  • Calculate and agree fully evidenced claim settlements and prepare comprehensive final reports

  • Maintain continual professional development in technical and legal areas relevant to major and complex loss

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and escalate any concerns appropriately

Skills and Experience

Education and Qualifications

  • ACILA, ACII, or other relevant professional qualification or equivalent experience (D)
