Description
We have opportunities for several Commercial Underwriters with proven experience in Property & Casualty to join our clients Commercial Insurance Department helping their customers and brokers in the UK. Our clients Commercial Insurance unit is responsible for managing all claims relating to Commercial Property, Casualty, Motor Engineering and Commercial Motor.
What you’ll be doing:
As Commercial Underwriter you’ll help drive and transform how we partner our broker portfolios, through responsive, flexible, and collaborative relationships. With a strong balance of technical and trading capability, you’ll be empowered to make decisions, supported by data, insight, and decision support tools on mobile technology to succeed. You will be focused on developing and delivering profitable growth, through our existing book of business, as well as contributing to the acquisition of new business.
- Underwrite Property & Casualty business profitably, accurately, consistently and in line with established underwriting practices, using the full range of tools available.
- Build a reputation as a trading expert with a panel of intermediaries and build confidence in the branch ability through interaction with our Underwriting Technical Centre.
- Contribute to meetings with brokers and end customers to portray capabilities and secure new business opportunities.
- Identify poorly performing accounts and investigate reasons for lack of retention. Agree and implement actions with senior underwriter, TTM & AM to increase retention.
- Actively encourage retention of profitable business.
Experience required:
- Commercial Underwriting experience is essential for this role.

- Stay curious:You’ll be perceptive of what our customers and the market wants and bring that knowledge into your work, whilst making the most of our clients development opportunities.

- Dip CII Qualification or working towards ACII qualification.
- Exposure to the UK General Insurance market.
- Commercial awareness, negotiation skills, ability to build strong broker relationships.
- Pragmatic and confident decision maker with good numerical reasoning skills.
- Strong analytical skills with proven experience of account monitoring and action planning.
- Technical underwriting expertise in a composite insurance environment (non-package).
- Sound knowledge of legislative and regulatory requirements for insurance (including treating customers fairly).
